Codex Usage Limits for ChatGPT Work

Work and Codex draw from the same included pool when both are on your plan. A long Work agent turn can empty the Codex window you expected to use later.

OpenAI documents that Codex, ChatGPT Work, and related agent surfaces share an allowance and credit pool when those features are on the plan. You still check Settings → Usage for the workspace that owns the seat — not a third-party remaining %.

Shared pool, two clocks

The same 5-hour and weekly model can apply to Work and Codex together. Hitting a limit in Work does not mean every ChatGPT feature is off — only surfaces that share that pool.

Business seats

Business Standard and Premium seats include Work / Codex usage, but the included volume differs by seat type. Official Business docs note Premium can remove the five-hour cap so sessions run longer, while a weekly allowance can still apply. Workspace credits are optional extra spend, not a higher included bar by themselves.

When a Premium → Standard change takes effect, Standard limits apply. Confirm the live seat in the workspace admin / usage view.

Open the correct workspace, then Settings → Usage
In Codex CLI, /status for the signed-in ChatGPT account
If credits are enabled, read credit balance separately from included windows
